Terrance McKnight

Terrance McKnight's commitment to music and community is underpinned by intelligence, respect and warmth. He captivates audiences whatever the context -- curator, writer, storyteller, actor, pianist, or weekday evening host for classical radio NYPR/WQXR. This season Terrance hosts conversations with Alec Baldwin, among others, on Princeton University's Music & Healing Series and anticipates the release of Concert Black for Abrams Press.
Recent projects include: a conversation with Jon Batiste on the topic of his Black Mozart CD at The Greene Space; an evening of poetry, music, and dance reflecting the cultures that influenced African-American visual artist Martin Puryear at the Cleveland Museum of Art; a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Schomburg Center for Black Research of the New York Public Library; a re-creation of the 1878, historic first concert by a free person of color at the White House; Handel: Made in America for the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Langston & Beethoven: Black & Proud, a show Terrance created and performed at spaces including Lincoln Center's Sidewalk Studio; serving as the Tsou Music Scholar at Skidmore College in 2024; and multiple seasons at Bang on a Can Summer Festival's Journalism Symposium. Complementing his nightly hosting on WQXR, his portfolio includes his podcast series, Every Voice, that investigated representations of Blackness in opera, and All Ears with Terrance McKnight received an ASCAP Deems Taylor Radio Broadcast Award. Terrance McKnight currently serves on the board of MacDowell, is the Artistic Advisor to the Harlem Chamber Players, and is a former member of the Artistic Council for The Hermitage Artist Retreat. www.terrancemcknight.me
